Syrian Refugee Crisis
This seminar was held by Mrs. Lindell and ran through the month of November. The main focus for this seminar was to gain awareness of the Syrian refugee crisis in Europe. I really enjoyed this seminar because I hadn't known much about the situation and I wanted to learn more. The first day we had Dr. Leigh come in and brief us on the basic things that we would have to know before looking deeper into the situation. During the seminar we also looked at Hmong refugees because the Hmong have a very large population in Wausau. To explain he experience, Mr. Yang came in and told us about the Hmong refugee experience, culture, history, and his personal story. I now look at Hmong kids and I'm able to know how they live and what they're culture is all about. About half way through the seminar we had a formal debate using Roberts Rules of Order. I had to represent the President of France, Francois Hollande. I thought that the debate was really fun but it was hard to say something then the only thing that my leader wanted was for each country to take It's fair share of refugees. Aside from that, we watched a few documentaries and read our personal books about refugees. I'm really glad that I chose to attend this seminar because I was able to get a lot of insight and knowledge of the experience which could help me with projects or future seminars.
